The Alert at 2:13 AM

A sign-in from a device Aarav didn't own, somewhere he had never been. The alert had a button. He almost pressed it.

The alert was real. Aarav only knew that because he didn't trust it.

2:13 AM. Thursday.

Aarav woke because his phone lit up the ceiling. An email: New sign-in to your account. A device he didn't own. A place he had never been. A button that said Review activity.

Half asleep, he almost pressed it.

Then a line arrived from somewhere in the back of his mind, one the team had repeated so often it had become a joke: don't let the message choose the door.

An alert about a stranger could itself come from a stranger. Aarav sat up, left the email where it was, and opened his work email app the way he always did.
