IDENTITY UNDER ATTACK · EPISODE 26

The First Fifteen Minutes

His mother called about a strange email. His password was rejected. The recovery number wasn't his any more. Aarav had fifteen minutes and a dozen options.

Identity Under Attack, episode 26: The First Fifteen Minutes. Fragment 26, the first fifteen.

Aarav had written the steps down weeks ago. Standing there with his mother on the line, the hard part was the order.

8:20 AM. Saturday.

Aarav's mother called before he was out of bed. Why had he emailed her at six in the morning, asking her to look at wedding photos? Whose wedding?

He hadn't. He opened his personal email to check, and the app asked him to sign in again. His password didn't work.

Two sign-in screens: Aarav's password is rejected, and account recovery offers to send a code to a phone number ending in 19, which is not his.

The recovery number ending in 19 wasn't his. Someone had changed it.

For a moment he just sat there, phone in hand, his mother still on the line. He knew most of the steps. He had written them down. What he didn't know was which one came first.
