The Client on the Other Side

Northstar finds a problem before its biggest client does. Now Alex has to tell Rachel Kim the truth, including the parts nobody knows yet.

9:20 AM. Tuesday.

Rachel Kim's number was on Alex's screen. He hadn't pressed call yet.

Eight months earlier, Rachel had been the one calling. Why have we received another client's confidential file? Alex still remembered how it felt to hear about his own studio's mistake from someone else.

This time, Northstar had found the problem first. The August drive was on its way back by courier. At 8:30, Alex and Priya had spoken to the adviser Neha had found the day before, to understand whether any notification rules might apply and what they still needed to check.

What they didn't have was the whole story.

Jordan had drafted something for Alex to read from. He slid it across the desk, hopeful.

Priya read it over his shoulder and asked, gently, "Which of these do we actually know?"
