The Last File, episode 30: The Company That Slept Better. 16:42 Tuesday. Alex's desk, the phone ringing again.

4:42 PM. Tuesday.

Alex Morgan was about to close his laptop when his phone rang.

Rachel Kim. Brightline Foods.

For a second he was back there: the same time of day, the same day of the week, the same name on the screen. Eight months earlier, a call exactly like this had started with a wrong attachment and a question nobody at Northstar could answer.

His stomach did the old thing.

A lot had changed since then. Folders had owners. Former employees' accounts closed on their last day. Backups were tested by restoring a file, not by hoping. There was a card by the door with the first three calls on it, and every Friday someone spent five minutes looking for small things before they became big ones.

None of that told him why she was calling.

He answered.

"Alex," Rachel said. "I need to ask you something."
