THE LAST FILE ยท EPISODE 29

The Five-Minute Security Habit

The newest person on the team runs the first weekly check, with a timer and an index card. Two small things turn up that nobody else had noticed.

The Last File, episode 29: The Five-Minute Security Habit. 09:55 Friday. Maya's desk, a five-minute timer.

9:55 AM. Friday.

Maya Kapoor set a timer on her phone for five minutes and looked at the index card taped to the bottom of her monitor.

Five words, in Priya's handwriting. Access. Backups. Software. Devices. Alerts.

She hadn't expected to go first. She'd been at Northstar for less time than anyone, and she said so.

"That's exactly why," Priya had said. "If the newest person can do it in five minutes, anyone can. You don't fix anything. You look, and you write down what you see."

Maya started the timer.

Access first. She opened the sharing list for the Brightline folders, which since last month had been split in two: one for artwork, one for anything confidential. Everyone on the confidential side had a reason she could say in a sentence.

Then she checked the artwork side, and stopped at the last name on the list.
