THE LAST FILE · EPISODE 05

The Password Everyone Shared

At 11:14 PM on Sunday, a link to the whole Brightline launch folder went to a print shop. The only name on it belonged to fourteen people.

8:52 AM. Friday.

Priya peeled the sticky note off the wall by the printer and carried it back to her desk.

The studio transfer account was how Northstar sent files too big for email: final artwork to printers, video cuts to clients. One login for the whole company. The password had gone up on that note three years ago so nobody would ever be stuck on a deadline.

She planned to change it today. First she wanted to see what the account had been used for.

She signed in and opened the sent history. Most of it made sense. Proofs to Brightline. A video to a client in another time zone.

Then, at 11:14 PM last Sunday, a link to the entire Brightline launch folder, sent to a print shop Priya had never heard of.

The column marked Sent by said what it always said.

Studio.

Priya looked across the office. Anyone in it could have typed that password. So could anyone who had ever worked here.
