The Last File, episode 28: The Price of One Small Mistake. 15:00 Friday. Neha's desk, a blank spreadsheet.

3:00 PM. Friday.

Alex pulled a chair up to Neha Iyer's desk.

"I want to know what the last two weeks cost us."

Neha looked up from the payroll run. "Nobody's invoiced us for anything."

"I know. That's what bothers me."

On paper, nothing much had happened. The drive had come back. The vendor had confirmed it in writing. Rachel Kim had thanked them, and Brightline was still Northstar's biggest client. No fine, no headline, no angry email.

And yet Alex had left the office after eight on three nights that week. Priya had moved a day off. Jordan looked like he'd been carrying that courier envelope around in his chest for ten days.

Neha opened a blank spreadsheet and typed one word at the top of the first column: Time.

"Start with who," she said. "Then hours. We'll get to money if we need to."

By the fourth row, Alex had stopped leaning back in his chair.
