THE LAST FILE · EPISODE 25

The Warning at 4:47 PM

A large copy to a USB drive, a courier waiting downstairs, and a plan three weeks old. The first fifteen minutes mattered more than the alert.

4:47 PM. Tuesday.

Priya Sharma's phone buzzed on the desk beside her keyboard.

A plain-English alert: a large amount of data had just been copied to a USB drive on studio PC 07. Studio PC 07.

Three weeks earlier, over samosas and doughnuts, the team had talked through an imaginary lost laptop and found eleven holes in her plan. Version two sat in a clear sleeve on her desk now. Its first line was the one Jordan had asked for: Don't wait. Say something.

So before she stood up, and before she guessed, she messaged Alex, who was across town at a client meeting.

PC 07 was the proofing computer by the window, the one with the big color-accurate monitor that anyone could use. From her desk, Priya could see who was at it.

Jordan. With a courier envelope under his arm.

She picked up the plan and walked over. Jordan looked up and smiled.

"Perfect timing. Can you sign for the courier? He's downstairs."
